This is when adolescents reach sexual maturity and become capable of reproduction. At this stage boys and girls undergo a series of biological and physical changes. It is common for girls to experience puberty between the ages of 9 and 14 while boys experience it between the ages of 12 and 16.

Although boys and girls share similar body changes when they reach puberty, there are some changes that are exclusive to boys and vice-versa for girls. For example boys don’t experience menstruation but girls do when they reach puberty.

What You Need To Know about menstruation




Menstruation is commonly called period or menstrual period. It is a natural body process that girls usually undergo when they reach puberty.
It is common for a girl to start menstruating from the age of 9 till they are 40 or above when menopause starts and menstruation ends.

It is usually the monthly discharge of blood from the uterus through the vagina. Bleeding can last from 2 to 7 days and even more with some girls. The menstruation process works on a cycle, where every girl’s cycle is different and is usually calculated 24- 28 days from the first period depending on the individual’s cycle.

Menstruation can be a challenging time for girls, because their bodies experience an array of things that may bring discomfort. Some girls experience abdominal pain, heavy bleeding and mood swings during or just before their menstrual periods. These experiences can cause them to withdraw from their usual activities such as attending school and engaging in extracurricular activities at school. However, they can be amazing when they get the right support.

How to Support her to be Amazing


Whoever you are, there are different ways you can support a girl to feel Amazing during her menstrual period. Here are some ways in which you can support her.

Do not make jokes or laugh when a girl soils herself during her menstruation.

Laughing or making jokes when a girl accidently soils herself during her menstruation affects her confidence and causes her to withdraw from participating in her usual activities.

Talk to them

Talk to the girls around you, to better understand what they go through during their periods. To gain a better understanding of their experiences ensure that they are comfortable around you to have such conversations.

Be Ready to Help


You can support a girl to be amazing by helping her with her chores or duties when you notice that she is experiencing pains.

Involve Them


Girls can be supported to be amazing by being encouraged to participate in exercises., Infact exercising works well in alleviating pain; therefore it is important to include them in activities rather than excluding them because they are in their periods.

Empathize, Empower


Menstruation is normal and every girl will go through it at some point in her life, she can be amazing when you empower her by showing her ways to manage her menstruation hygienically instead of pitying her.
